Frida Kahlo

Term 1: Year 8 students are learning about the Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. They will develop their drawing skills by exploring and experimenting with a range of drawing materials to create their own Kahlo-style self portrait.

“Year 8 are drawing portraits, my view as the ‘model’, loving the concentration.”

Here, year 8 students are experimenting with charcoal and graphite when drawing Miss Pearson. Using mirrors they also drew themselves.

Collective Action

20120911-114124.jpg

Term 1: Year 9 students have started creating art work based on Tino Sehgal’s exhibition in the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern (see International blog for more details). Working outdoors and as part of a team they have been using their bodies to draw around, then adding patterns and colours which express how they feel.
The final piece of art is created when students become part of the art by laying amongst the drawings or using their shadow to enhance the overall piece.
